About Me

Movie Producer | Social Worker | Entrepnuer

I am a filmmaker by profession. Born in the then remote Dilpa Bhojpur to my parents, the late Nar Bahadur Rai and Mrs. Bhaiswari Rai, I had a sense of entrepreneurship from my childhood despite being the offspring of a British Army (Lahure) family. The common perception of Lahure offspring is that they are spendthrift, reckless, and undisciplined, with little inclination toward academics. However, I was nurtured differently and was driven by a mission to be a winner and achiever in life.

The premature death of my father made me even more determined to accomplish something meaningful. I took on the responsibility for my family. My father had managed to buy land and relocate our family to Terai, Morang. I completed my SLC at Laxmi Higher Secondary School, Morang, and earned my PCL from Janata Bahumikhi Campus, Itahari. Later, I moved to Kathmandu and graduated with a BBS from Minbhawan Campus.

I wanted to break away from the traditional Lahure path and pursue something different. Although I aspired to be an entrepreneur, I have always had a soft corner for the poor and needy. When my cousin, Raj Kumar Rai, decided to pursue filmmaking, I began supporting his projects. Having grown up together, we understood each other’s temperament, strengths, and weaknesses. I produced feature-length films such as Sangam, Triveni, Paapi Manchhe, Paapi Manchhe 2, Producer, and One Way, as well as mega serials like Dui Thopa Aansu (56 episodes), which aired on NTV, and Saino Kasto Kasto (106 episodes), which aired on TTV.

I share a happy love marriage with my wife, Ramu Shrestha Rai, and we have a daughter. Despite my active involvement in social work and philanthropy, my family has always supported me and has never been an obstacle to my endeavors. I have held key positions in various organizations, such as Chairman of Jijibisha Youth Club, Morang; Vice Chairman of Shree Group Itahari Club; Chairman of Morang District Tae Kwon Do Committee; Coordinator of Helping You UK’s Nepal Chapter; Coordinator of Newa Charity; and member of the Nepal Chalchitra Nirmata Sangh and Film Development Board, among others.

Athlete Santosh Rai, who lives in the UK, has established an organization named Helping You in the UK. The organization organizes events like the 8K Dharan Run in Nepal and Park Runs in the UK, raising funds to support the poor, needy, and earthquake victims. I am proud to be part of their efforts, which have raised and donated nearly ten million rupees with plans for more.

I own a movie production company and an engineering consulting and construction company. I contributed to building a 15×40 room for Samundra Devi Primary School in Nuwakot. I have also organized free health camps and distributed sweaters, blankets, and clothes to earthquake victims.

I am humbled to have been honored by various organizations in Nepal and the UK for my philanthropic work. Last year, during my visit to the UK to promote my films, I donated Rs. 4,80,000 from the proceeds of my movie Producer to a disabled organization through Newa Charity. “I did not donate my income because I had a lot of money; I did it because I felt an urgent need to support those in greater need than myself and my family,” I often say. Although I require funds for upcoming projects, I prioritize giving back to the community.

My upcoming plans include producing a feature-length movie on Kirat Rai culture, constructing houses for disabled communities, and contributing to nation-building through construction projects.
